Strengthening Or Starting Churches
In Restricted Areas of our World
Stephen Hue Nguyen, President of the Vietnamese Missionary Institute has set an example of Strengthening Or Starting and staffing Churches By Clusters with the Church Starts International strategy and materials that can be implemented, time and time again, throughout the restricted areas of our world.
A note from Stephen Hue Nguyen, “Praise the Lord because we know there are about 500 students of VMI in Vietnam. Today many other places in the USA also want to start their local VMI training centers. They want to learn our materials first. I believe that we can develop VMI training centers very fast. We pay advertisement in Huong Di magazine. Day by day, Christians and non-believers come to know us. Everywhere the church[es] like this CSI program because it [is] short, easy to learn and Biblical…”
“Bro. Bill, this March we have over 200 disciples to graduate and receive certificates of missionary preparation. Please pray for them and Vietnam.”
Stephen Hue Nguyen, an Apostle-Paul type missionary, resigned his church and went with Church Starts International full-time. He travels extensively with CSI materials he translated into the Vietnamese language. He takes Strengthening Or Starting and staffing Churches By Clusters to the multitudes of his own people in Vietnam, the United States, Canada, and elsewhere, paving and paying his own way.
We Baptists must go find the Stephen Hue Nguyens of our world, meet their needs, and help enable them to become missionaries and spiritual leaders among their own people in their native language at home and abroad.
Last year, Bro. Nguyen spoke at the National Baptist Convention in Vietnam, in a gathering they are permitted to have once every four years. He challenged the Convention to start three Vietnamese Missionary Institutes (VMIs) in the nation but was surprised when the delegates voted, instead, to start thirty! So far, at least twenty have been started and all with strong enrollments. Since that meeting, Bro. Nguyen has visited Vietnamese Christian groups in Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, Great Britain and Russia, leaving missionary institutes in his trail! Perhaps the strongest of these is in the city of Moscow, where there are tens of thousands of Vietnamese. The VMI is also being established among Vietnamese in different parts of the USA.
The Vietnamese are a breath-taking example of how Church Starts International can help the many people groups in their own language on the six major continents of our hurting world. Southern Baptist are so blessed with 901 people groups engaged by our IMB personnel as of June 1, 2014. Also, there are 322 spoken languages in the United States alone.
Just think what could happen if we could find and enlist dozens, or even hundreds, of committed, able immigrants among the millions in the United States. We could support each in prayer, help in translating and support them getting started in evangelism, missions, and starting churches on both sides of the ocean. We could pray for them as they move among their own people with the good news of our dear Savior, while paving and paying their own way as Stephen Hue Nguyen has done and is doing.
Upon graduation from the VMI, students receive a certificate of missionary training and a green Polo with the VMI logo, made in a VMI training center in Saigon.
